Protected from a predatory outside world by the Southern Sierra Madre, the Nahuas of the small towns in the Balsas river basin awake daily to behold illuminated mountains in an never-ending spectacle that changes from hot, dusty yellows and warm golden ochrers, to the cool violets and deepening hues of dusk and cool moonlight.

This landscape is, doubtless, the main inspiration for our artists, who create, day after day, an incomparable form of art.

The figures are sketched on the clay piece, which has been previously fired and wetted, with fine brushes and drawing ink; then the figures are filled out with bright acrylic colors.

This is the Natural Clay technique.

The Blue Clay technique is somewhat different. First, the piece is completely primed with cobalt blue, and on this background the figures are sketched with light colors; then, as before, they are filled out with acrylic colors.

Every family develop their own style than sometimes they share with their neighbors and relatives.

This makes every piece original and different depending upon the Author, and naturally, his hometown.
